
S V Ramana Murthy was a member of the Indian Statistical Service (Govt of India), has served the Government of India in various capacities and superannuating after 36 years of service as Additional Director General in August, 2021. Post superannuation from GOI, he worked as Advisor, Economic Statistics Center of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirate. His areas of interest are Informal sector, MSME, labour economics, National Accounts, Blue Economy and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
At the Ministry of Statistics, (2009-21) was incharge of bringing out macro aggregates related to the National Income of India, Environmental Accounts and SDG indicators along with other social statistics such as population, human development including health and education, employment, social justice and time use, while that of multi-domain statistics includes poverty, gender, persons with disabilities, as also indicators related to Sustainable Development Goals. He is one of the Authors of the National accounting framework of estimation of blue economy and ocean governance. At the erstwhile Planning Commission he was one of the authors of India’s first Human Development Report, 2001 brought out by Oxford University Press while being involved with the Perspective Planning Division dealing with the investment requirements and growth targets of India’s five year plans.
He has published papers on informal economy at IMF, Blue Economy and National accounts.
He was an expert on Informal Sector on Research Project of Asian Productivity Organisation (APO) , Japan. Presented paper in the 7th IMF Statistical Forum, Measurement of Informal Economy .
He is a post graduate in Statistics from Delhi University and a post graduate Diploma in computer applications. He also holds a Diploma in Development Economics from IDCJ, Japan.
