Anupam Prakash is currently working as the Director of National Accounts Analysis Division in the Department of Economic & Policy Research of Reserve Bank of India. She has a work experience of 26 years in the RBI in various areas including national accounts,banking, fiscal,prices and international relations.
She has served as a member of the Committee on Financial Sector Statistics (Chairman: Dr. R. Dholakia) of 2018. She has been regularly contributing to the analysis of national income aggregates, gross domestic savings and gross capital formation of the Indian economy for various publications of the Reserve Bank of India such as, Annual Report, Monetary Policy Report, Financial Stability Report, Handbook of the Indian Economy and the RBI Bulletin. She has also worked on State Domestic Product data of different States. She has been preparing updates on the projections of GDP and its components, both from the supply and expenditure sides, for monetary policy purposes. She has also guided compilation of financial accounts augmenting the flow of funds accounts of the Indian Economy with the financial stocks data, 2011-12 onwards, as well as compilation of quarterly and annual Households Financial Savings. She has represented the RBI in meetings of the Advisory Committee on National Accounts, and is a regular participant in discussions in various national and international agencies which include the IMF, the OECD, the G20, the BIS, other central banks, and various credit rating agencies.
She has also been a member of the Framework Working Group of G20 and contributed to drafting the Report of The Group on Model Fiscal Responsibility Legislation at State Level, March 2005. She has also worked in the secretariat for the Report of the Group to Study the Pension Liabilities of the State Governments,October 14, 2003.
She has published research papers in various areas. Her major work include inter alia Night-time Luminosity Data in India;Examining Gross Domestic Product Data Revisions in India;Tracking Economic Activities in Covid time through the Lens of High Frequency Indicators;Recent Releases of National Accounts Aggregates: An Appraisal;BenchmarkingIndian Regulatory Practices to the G20 Financial Reforms Agenda;International Financial Integration: Capital Flows and Growth of Asian Economies;Evolution of the Basel Framework on Capital Regulation;Sustainability of Public Debt in India: An Assessment in the Context of Fiscal Rules;and States’ Debt and Debt Relief.
